Depending on how soon I get my hands on the proof copy and whether it looks good enough to start selling, the 130 page paperback of Grand Theft Boblo may be released on December 14, 2010.
I hear you saying, "What kind of book? What is a boblo? Who are you?" It's a novel or a novella or novelette, depending on how you classify those things. It's longer than "Under the Black Ensign" by L. Ron Hubbard, which is billed as a "short novel" at 120 pages. I don't remember if that counts the hagiographic essay at the start of the recent reprint, or the biographic profile, or the glossary of nautical terms. I do remember that it was pretty slim.
What is a Boblo? That's a Canadian island in the Detroit River, officially "Bois Blanc" island, corrupted to "Bob-Lo" by millions of Americans who ferried over to the amusement park that operated there for almost 100 years.
Who are you? I'm Batman.
But enough about me, let's talk about my novel. It's a tale of piracy in the Detroit River. But not much of it happens in Detroit or on Boblo Island. Mainly it's about a guy who wants to be a pirate, so the first thing he does is steals a jet ski.
The part that involves Boblo comes after he mugs a fisherman and works his way up to bigger crimes. Eventually his crew of gamer buddies attempts to hijack an old steam ferry and chug it over to the old amusement park. Hijacking hijinx and hilarity ensue, I hope.
I'm also planning to gradually podcast the whole thing (free audio book which will come out one chapter at a time), in the hopes that some people will want to buy the printed copy.
